Microneedling
What is micro-needling or collagen induction therapy?
Microneedling/Micro-needling also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive, non-surgical and non-ablative procedure for skin rejuvenation. It involves the use of a micro-needling device, (mechanical or electronic) to create controlled skin injury which in turn boosts the skin healing process. Skin needling provides results similar to laser resurfacing and chemical peels but with minimal downtime. Each fine needle punctures the skin and creates a tiny channel or micro-wound to the dermis. This controlled micro-injury triggers the body to stimulate fibroblasts and growth factors to fill these micro-wounds with the production of new collagen and elastin. In addition, new capillaries are formed.
A course of Derma pen Micro-Needling treatments leads to a reduction of scars and stimulates skin rejuvenation with improved skin texture, firmness and hydration. Creating controlled dermal damage without the removal of the healthy epidermis, as with other resurfacing techniques, means there is rapid healing time and the preservation of protection from the environment.
There are various needling devices and at Natural Enhanced Beauty Clinic we use an electronic skin micro-needling machine known as ‘The Derma pen’. The Derma pen is an FDA approved device that is proven to be less uncomfortable, with minimal to no downtime and provides greater results than a roller. The added advantage of the pen is that the depth of the needle penetration can be altered during treatment. This enables us to provide a truly bespoke treatment plan to minimize discomfort and maximize results around sensitive and not so sensitive areas.
The tip of the pen is small, allowing it to pass closer to the eyes and nose for a more effective treatment in these areas that are of great concern to many. The vibration of The Derma pen helps to confuse the brain which helps to minimize pain. Micro needling creates microscopic punctures in the skin. Mmicroneedle is the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin for the purposes of rejuvenation. The most popular micro needling device, are made up of micro-fine needles that range in diameter from 0.5 and 2.5 millimeters.
What is micro needling used for?
Micro needling repeatedly penetrates the skin creating thousands of tiny microchannels that the skin perceives as micro wounds. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process; production of collagen and elastin. The result is smoother, healthier and younger-looking skin. It also creates a channel to the deeper layers of skin to fast-track your skincare ingredients to make them work even harder.
What effects does the Derma pen have on the skin?
- Helps improve acne scars
- Minimizes large pores
- Treats alopecia (when used in conjunction with a topical treatment)
- Aids in the penetration of active ingredients
- Micro needling is an all-round skin treat, it delivers instant radiance to the skin and is excellent treatment and an easy, effective way to rejuvenate the skin and deliver a healthy glow

According to the experts, micro needling works on all skin types but is especially effective on those who have scarring and pigmentation. It can be used in acne treatments to help improve the appearance of scars by breaking up the scar tissue and stimulating the induction of new collagen and elastin.
